Per Se is working with one of the largest renewable energy firms in the world. We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to support the design and construction of substations for renewable energy projects. The role involves overseeing electrical engineering contractors, managing design specifications, and ensuring the technical quality of substation projects from construction to commissioning.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the preliminary design of substations for renewable energy plants.
- Oversee and manage contractors involved in substation design, including reviewing engineering drawings and specifications.
- Maintain and optimize substation design criteria and technical specifications for equipment and construction works.
- Provide technical support during contractual negotiations, including performance schedules and equipment specifications.
- Conduct engineering analysis of emerging technologies and coordinate external consultants.
- Perform international site visits to ensure the quality of substation projects at various stages.
- Develop and refine tools and procedures to enhance consistency and cost-efficiency in substation design.
- Provide engineering consulting to internal project managers and other departments such as Operations and Maintenance.
- Review and evaluate technical specifications for equipment such as transformers, circuit breakers, SCADA systems, and more.
- Contribute to safety processes in project designs and ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Oversee on-site testing and commissioning of major electrical components, ensuring adherence to quality and technical standards.
- Collaborate with the procurement team, overseeing factory testing of electrical equipment and managing equipment proposals.
- Assist in managing quality audits and resolving non-conformance issues.
- Provide on-site support during key project phases, including grid integration and energization.
- Create and manage reporting for internal stakeholders and key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Additional tasks as assigned.
Required Skills and Competencies:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required; P.E. license is a plus.
- At least 5 years of experience in utility or power plant design preferred.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to provide training on complex technical concepts.
- Familiarity with renewable energy systems, including PV, wind, and battery energy storage systems (BESS).
- Experience in large-scale substation design, construction, and commissioning.
- Expertise in substation sizing, configuration, and design optimization.
- Familiarity with electrical and mechanical concepts as well as industry standards.
- Ability to travel 15%-30% to domestic and international locations.
- Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
- Proficiency with tools such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Project, Bluebeam, ETAP, and AutoCAD.
